Das Buch ist eine Aufsatzsammlung von Vorträgen einer wissenschaftlichen Tagung. Es ist dem Thema hystricomorphe Nagetiere gewidmet und vermittelt mit seinen Themen Basiswissen über hystricomorphe Nagetiere, aber auch spezielles Fachwissen und dürfte nicht zuletzt auch dank guter Literaturangaben ein hervorragendes Werk für weitergehende Recherchen sein. Der einzige Wermutstropfen ist sein Alter. Für aktuelle Informationen muss man sich dennoch andersweitig informieren. Mit diesem Werk findet man aber dennoch zu vielen Themen wertvolle Informationen, ja vieles veraltet nicht so schnell.
