One big difference in locomotion of chinchillas and degus is the jumping behaviour. Degus are ground-dweller and they live subterranean as well. In contrast chinchillas are adapted to rocky habitats and seek shelter between rocks and plants (e.g. Puya berteroniana). They are good jumpers and may perform complex multiple jumps.
